Welcome to the
official site of Lions District 201N5, the Lions of Sydney and Norfolk
Island.
Our District
is one of 20 across Australia and covers an area of over 50 square kilometres from the Hawkesbury River in the north to Cronulla in the
south and west to the foothills of the Blue Mountains.
This site
has information relating to many and varied projects, fundraising
events, foundations and health and community areas in which we as Lions
are involved.
Lions Clubs
International is the largest community service organisation in the world
and Lions live up to their motto of, “We Serve” in many areas, including
our local communities and worldwide communities. We do this through our
Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs as well as through our International
Foundations.
The Lions
are involved in many projects, assisting children with Cerebral Palsy,
Cystic Fibrosis and Childhood Cancer. To date Lions have raised over
$3 million in support of the Children’s Cancer Institute to help fund
their research for a cure for childhood cancer. Many children who have
been unable to walk have been able to ‘walk tall’ because of our
Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation. So many children and
their families have benefitted from the Camps for Children with Diabetes
held twice yearly. The NSW/ACT Lions Deaf Camp held yearly is another
way of assisting our Youth in need.
Youth of the
Year Quest involves young people in High Schools across Australia,
challenging them with questions on a wide range of topics combined with
an interesting public speaking experience. The Peace Poster Competition
held yearly in Primary Schools challenges young ones to think of world
peace and to show their artistic talents.
Our Sight
programs have restored sight to thousands of people worldwide. We are
able to help many overseas with our eyeglass recycling program by
recycling glasses that are not needed anymore.
Our local
clubs usually meet twice a month and have interesting guest speakers to
entertain. These meetings provide a great opportunity to make new
friends and to meet with other like minded people who want to make a
difference.
Men and
women are welcome to join Lions and Leos Alpha Club is from 12 to 18
years and Leos Omega Club is from 18 to 30 years.
Lions are
ordinary people who do extraordinary things!!
