Welcome to the official site of Lions District 201N5, the
Lions of the Sydney area.
One of 20 districts across Australia, our 'patch' covers
an area of more than 50 square kilometres from the Hawkesbury River in
the north to Cronulla in the south and west to Penrith and Richmond.
Within this site you will find information on the many
and varied projects, fundraising events, foundations and health and
community areas in which Lions are involved.
Lions Clubs International is the largest community
service organisation on the planet and with the motto 'We Serve' Lions
support our local communities and our worldwide communities. We do this
though our Lions, Lioness and Leo clubs as well as through our
International Foundations.
The projects we get involved with are many and varied.
Whether it's as simple as assisting an elderly person by mowing a lawn
or as involved as raising millions of dollars to buy essential equipment
for a hospital, Lions are invariably at the front line. Lions have
initiated many rewarding ventures including the Lions Campaign SightFirst II (a project aimed at restoring sight to thousands of people
world wide) and the Lions Cord Blood and Childhood Cancer Research
Appeal. To date Lions have raised in excess of $3 million in support of
the Children’s Cancer Institute to help fund their research for a cure
for childhood cancer.
We are involved in projects which support and encourage
our youth. Our Youth of the Year Quest involves young people in High
Schools across Australia, challenging them with questions on a wide
range of topics combined with an interesting public speaking experience.
The NSW & ACT Lions Deaf Camp and our Camps for Children with Diabetes
also support and foster our youth.
Our local clubs usually meet twice a month with an
entertaining guest speaker in attendance. These meetings provide a great
opportunity for social interaction between like minded volunteers with a
focus on community service. To support our club members we also
facilitate personal development courses aimed at enhancing public
speaking and leadership skills and promoting confidence and self esteem.
Our reward for being part of a Lions Club is simple - the
joy comes when we are able to help someone less fortunate than
ourselves.
In the words of the Lions International President, ‘Lions
are everyday heroes performing miracles through service.’
